baqtasia 2026
I originally wrote this instrumental composition in 1981.
I was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach's
Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring and I incorporated a small piece of
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Sonata K.545 No.16.
In 1972 a group called Apollo 100 had a song called Joy
that was also a catalyst for my creation.
In my opinion, all these works are superior to my own,
humble interpretation. Hopefully I honor, in some small way,
these musical giants. Finally, in choosing to name my song
Baqtasia, I was calling out Bach with a twist. I had recently
seen the Walt Disney production Fantasia at the
Cinerama Dome in Hollywood Ca. with my good friend Dale Wood.
I was learning to appreciate music other than Rock.

I thought I'd add another, earlier mix from the
production process. This one is mostly acoustic,
before I added Electric Guitars & Drum fills.
Sometimes simpler is better?
You be the judge.

Random Rambling Production Notes
This one was a bit of a challenge.
And, as always, it has flaws and I wish I had performed better.
I generally work on musical projects once a week, on Fridays.
I started work on Baqtasia in January.
So it sometimes takes a while to get things right, or at least acceptable.
Usually I get to the point that I just need to be done, so it is what it is!
Anything can be improved on, but too much tinkering can make things worse.
Sometimes the simplest approach is best, and sometimes that's
the first take. Note to self & words to live by!
Anyway, I experimented with tempo. First 120 BPM (beats per minute).
Then settled on 130 after recording rough tracks at both speeds.
At the higher speed I accidentally started the final passage
on the up-beat instead of the downbeat. once in a while
a mistake like that could end up being a good, happy accident,
that adds an interesting element. I'm not sure I accomplished that!
Oh well. It's mine and I'm stuck with it.
Here's the track rundown:
(2) tracks of DR5 Drums
(1) track for Bass
(2) tracks of Acoustic Guitar
(2) tracks Electric Guitar
(1) track for Keyboard
I did it all.
Thanks for listening, I hope you liked it!
