Melancholy Monday 2026
Melancholy Monday 2026
Time sure flies
We hate to say goodbye
The weekends gone
In the blink of an eye.
Time drags on
Five days take too long
When you're hanging on the phone.
Friday's here
Hearts are near
Saturday comes
Time for fun
When Sunday sets
With regret
We say goodbye again.
(But) on Melancholy Monday
I fade back to you
(And) our love comes shining through.
Every Melancholy Monday
Though the weekends through
My hearts still there with you.
Friday's here
Our hearts cheer
Saturday comes
Time for fun
As Sunday sets
I won't forget
The days we leave behind.
Life is here
Here and now
We'll find our way
Through somehow.
Through the years
And through the days
I'll love you always.

Here's a bunch of photos of some of the "Fun" we've had together!
Notes
Melancholy Monday is a song I began in 1987
when I met my future wife, Betty, and completed in 2026.
Nearly 40 years in the making!
On the one hand, the short, original lyric,
said all I needed to say at the time.
On the other, I wanted a song about that time in our lives,
when we were dating and living apart, that was worthy
as a tribute to the love we share, then and now.
And the weekends we would spend together.
I was so lucky to meet Betty,
a kind, compassionate, intelligent, beautiful woman
that I share so much in common with.
From family to music to politics and religion
to the environment, social justice and animal welfare,
we were on the same page.
That's the key to a long and happy life together:
Shared interests and values.
We both went to a lot of Rock concerts in our youth,
and it's crazy how many times we saw the same group,
the same night, at the same venue, before we knew each other!
So...here's my song to her and that time in our lives.
We don't have to wait for the weekend anymore.
