friends are friends 2024
Take it from me
As my last friend
We've seen it thru
To the end.
The both of us are grey
Yet we haven't seen our last day
But when the time comes to go
One will remain.
Remember the years we had
The dreams we've left behind
Across the great divide of age
Now I see for the first time
The truth in a rhyme
We used to say:
Rivers run
And seasons change
But Friends are Friends
For always.
Some will come
And some may go
But those with love
Will hear you
When you call.

This is a sentimental little song I wrote when I was 21 in 1981.
Written & dedicated to all those I've had the privilege
of calling a Friend. I honor and thank you.
I've always had some sense of my own mortality,
but took comfort in my youth & health.
Losing my Father at 19, John Lennon at 20 and
the Kennedy & Martin Luther King assassinations
probably instilled in me how temporary life can be.
Somewhat depressing, but these experiences taught me
to appreciate things, moments & people more deeply.
Seize the day, tomorrows not guaranteed.
