TIME CAPSULE 2024

I thought a space-themed slideshow
would add a little fun to an otherwise serious song.

Floating out in space
I feel the time is right
To leave this human race
Far behind

I see a world of suffering
I hear the cries of pain
I don't think I want to
Pass this way again

I feel lost without a clue
In a Time Capsule
One & one just don't make two
When you're the fool
In a Time Capsule

With a little luck
I might see some change
a turn about
of foul play
Until that day
If we aren't all one
I can't belong much longer
The past is gone

Safe in outer space
I feel the timings right
To give humanity, some sanity
It's time to end the scandal of war
Open the door
Let peace & love in
Hate is not what we're here for
Hate is not what we're here for

I felt lost without a clue
'Till I broke through
 My Time Capsule
There's nothing we can't do
If our hearts are true
Good bye Time Capsule.

Notes

I'm not sure if I knew what a Time Capsule actually was
when I wrote this one, or if I just liked the sound of it for a song title.
It normally refers to a collection of artifacts preserved in a box that is
entombed in the corner of a building or structure that reflect current events,
for posterity, at the time of the structures completion.
Items in the Time Capsule would be revealed on a future date,
or upon the structures demolition.
I think my thought was if our understanding of the world
and society does not evolve, we, our minds & attitudes,
become locked in the past. A mental Time Capsule.
All these songs I've written over the years are,
in a way, my Time Capsule. My legacy. My children.
I'm so thankful to have them to amuse me in my old age!
I'd like to acknowledge the following background audio
narratives concerning Apollo 11.
This month marks the 55th anniversary of the launch (7/16)
and landing on the Moon (7/20) in 1969.
They are so historic & added fun to my recording.
The stopwatch ticking recalls the 1960's space race
and the passage of time.
The marching boots at the end are actually for use
in a different song, but signify time marching on.
I always liked sound clips like these that artists like
Pink Floyd and the Beatles included in their recordings.

Finally, as long as we're talking about Time Capsules,
it's worth noting that in this election year (2024)
somewhere near half of the U.S. either is, or wants to,
live in one.
They see change & progress as a threat to the
status quo, which it is to be fair. We need more tolerance for others
& new ideas. If we refuse to learn & grow and embrace reality,
clinging to the past, in our Time Capsules, humanity &
the world around us suffers.
The past is gone, the future starts...now.
Thank you for listening!

Sometimes updating my old songs is challenging.
I want to stay true to the inspiration of the time they were written.
Sometimes the ideas are dated, as that of another time & need
some modernizing. Sometimes I don't care, because it speaks
for that time. And sometimes what was old, is new again.
