live in peace
notes
I started writing Live in Peace in May of 2017 as a reaction to the polarization that was gripping the nation after the 2016 election. Kind of an anecdote to my earlier protest song: Wake up-it's not a Dream. The music was actually inspired by a couple of early songs, The Ways of Change & Atlantis. I wanted the words & phrases to be short, simple & impactful so the listener could get the meaning without trying too hard. As I've mentioned before, song writing has always been a form of therapy for me & a means to sort things out. After the election the division, disruption & destruction that was taking place in our lives, country & world made me want to ask; why can't we Live in Peace? I have always thought that the company you keep as well as how you vote, is a reflection of our character. To see that half of America found nothing wrong with the behavior of our new President was disappointing to say the least. No longer could we share in common an understanding of what was right or wrong, truth or lies as well as what is good or evil. How can we ever see eye to eye again on anything if we can't agree on the ground rules of what is & what is not acceptable? Pondering all this brings me great sadness. I have lost friends & family because above all else I value Justice, Kindness & Decency. I try to live by The Golden Rule & Do unto others as I would have done unto me. Unfortunately, now in this day & age even many religious leaders have forgotten this as they embrace tribalism & the taint of politics damages faith. Going forward in this new year & decade of 2020 we must hold out hope. I want to agree to disagree & let it be. I will continue to ask myself why can't I, even try, to see your side. And hope someday I can. All I ask for is Honesty. Thank you for reading my thoughts, may you find &
Live in Peace.
