voyager 2024
In search of calmer porting
We have left our lives behind
Cast our sails to the fair wind
Buried memories that only remind.
Our determination for freedom
Is much stronger than the king
For a haven for our families
And every living thing.
So now we've set out
To mark the unmarked shore
To reach & touch the solace
We've never known before.

Notes
I wrote this song in 1981
thinking about the sacrifices our ancestors made
to reach a new world & new opportunity in America.
Not unlike the migrants & immigrants fleeing
wars, famine, persecution, oppression & climate change today.
All contribute to the fabric of our diverse society.
Their inclusion renews our nation's vitality, variety & viability.
They should be welcomed, as we would like to be, not feared.
I may have also been inspired
by the Voyager spacecraft
that launched in 1977 to explore the cosmos.
Amazingly it is still transmitting data,
47 years later!
*Special thanks to The Relaxation Station on YouTube
for the background wave & seagull sound effects I used on this song.*
