We can make a Difference 2024

We can make a difference
We can shape the world to come.

You take your race
I'll take my faith
Without disgrace
Everything in it's own place
 Everything in it's own place.

In this world of ours
There's twice as many clowns as stars
But you can be a star
If you see the light.

Just give an inch
Let everyone have their nitch
Along the path of life.

They blame the state
Discriminate
And think they can take,
Take our rights away...
No way.

We can make a difference
We can shape the world to come
You hold the answer
Put down your guns
Live in love.

A world that's safe
From toxic waste
And climate change
Let's build a better day
In a world that's sane.

Today is the future
Yesterday has passed
We look forward
To make tomorrow last.

What'll we leave our children,
And generations yet to come?
A world that's better
And leaders they can trust?

We can make a difference
We can shape the world to come
We all know the answer
Share the world & get along

We can make a difference
We can shape the world to come
De-escalate the hate
And live in love

We can make a difference
We can shape the world to come
We all hold the answers
Have a heart--show your love.

Next Sheer Luck song

Notes

The Protest Song
was a product of the 1960's counterculture
& the First amendment right of free speech.
The freedom to dissent peacefully, an American tradition.
The Vietnam war, Civil Rights, Women's Rights, & Political corruption
are a few topics that have provided inspiration.
I came of age during some of this turmoil & fight for Social Justice.
I never wanted to just write about fun & trivial things,
although there needs to be a place for that too, music allows escape.
However, songs also provide a powerful platform to inspire thought
about some of the most important issues of our time.
And that intrigued me. The trick was how to keep it somewhat positive
and without making the challenges seem hopeless.
I hope this song, originally written in 1981 when I was 21,
with a few updated lyrics for 2024, accomplishes that.
Please do what you can to make the world
a better place for everyone.

Here's a link to the original 1981 version
#41 on my Archive III collection.
